Information for PSSA Netball, Soccer and AFL
The Primary Schools Sports Association (PSSA) facilitates and promotes inter-school sporting competition. Each school year school students are eligible to participate in PSSA sporting fixtures. The sports undertaken are organised by schools within the local area. Most schools have pre-existing sporting preferences and organise competitions popular with students.
Currently, Castle Cove Public School offers the following PSSA sports:
Year 3 – AFL (mixed boys and girls)
Year 4 – AFL (mixed boys and girls)
Years 5 and 6 – Netball (girls) and Soccer (mixed boys and girls)
Please find below our PSSA organisation for 2017.
Training will be held every Friday morning, between 7:45-8:45am. Soccer / AFL training is at Holly Street Oval, and Netball training is at school.
For training updates and information please refer to our sports blog (especially when the weather looks inclement) at http://castlecovesportspage.blogspot.com/
Games will be held on Friday afternoons. Students will be travelling by bus or walking to their playing destinations each Friday, leaving school between 12.00-12.15pm and returning to school by 3:25pm.

Netball will be held at Willoughby Leisure Centre, Willoughby.

A draw will be handed to students as they become available for any parents wishing to watch students play.
The cost of playing PSSA in Term 2 and 3 will be paid in a lump sum with permission note before students are permitted to play PSSA sport. This cost will cover all rounds of PSSA competition. Please note that this is a non-refundable amount. Information about estimated cost will be provided by email. The final cost will be outlined in a note brought home if they are successful in gaining a place.
Students will be required to read and sign the code of conduct form and return it to their coaches. Students must have read and signed the code of conduct before playing PSSA sport. This is to avoid any confusion in what is expected from students each week.
Students will be issued with Castle Cove PSSA uniforms that should be returned to coaches at the end of the playing season in Term 3. Netballers will also be given a bib every Friday to wear on the court. All students will require a hat, sunscreen and drink for their games. Soccer and AFL students need to provide the following.
- Navy shorts
- Shin pads (for soccer only )
- Navy/Blue socks
- Soccer boots (without metal studs)
- Mouth guard (optional soccer/ recommended for AFL)
Students will need to promptly return the permission note and payment (to be advised) in order for them to play.
Dance (Terms 2 & 3,) Tennis and PSSA Skills
Dance, Skills Clinic and Tennis will be held on Friday afternoons between 2-3pm. Places are offered to students in Years 3-6 who are not involved in PSSA sport. Each Term students will express their interest in participation by ‘signing up' for the sport of their choice. Signing up does not guarantee a place. Our best efforts will be made to allow all students to participate in a sport that they have ‘signed up' for at some point in the year.
- Dance (Terms 2 & 3)
In Terms 2 & 3 Dance lessons will be offered to a maximum of 25 students. Lessons will take place in the Hall between 2-3pm. There is no cost involved. Students who are already part of the Dance Troupe are not eligible to participate.
