Daily Home Reading
All students are required to read at home daily for at least 10 minutes. In Kindergarten and Year One they are encouraged to read aloud to an adult. In Years 2-6, as they become more independent, students may read silently or aloud.
Home Readers for levels 1-29 are borrowed from the classroom. The classroom teacher manages this process. Books are signed in and out against the students' names. As a record of each student's home reading is kept by the teacher, there is no requirement for students to complete a home reading log.
When a student achieves an independent reading level of 30, they should continue daily home reading using books from the school library. Library borrowing records allow teachers to monitor student reading if required.
